Mukunga Estate, owned by Hanner Wanjiku Mukunga in Kiambu county, benefits from its high altitude (1,850 to 1,880 meters above sea level) for growing high-quality coffee. The estate is surrounded by Aberdare forest, a renowned specialty-coffee area. Hanner supports the community by running an arabica seedling nursery and selling seedlings at affordable rates. The majority of trees on Mukunga Estate are SL28, with some Ruiru 11. The farm's coffee trees date back to the 1970s and thrive in red volcanic soil with ample rainfall. Hanner meticulously handpicks ripe cherries and processes them using a 3-disk pulper. Following fermentation, parchment is washed in clean water and laid to dry on raised beds.
