Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha
Hacienda La Esmeralda, one of the most iconic Geisha farms that rediscovered the variety back in 2004 in Boquete, Panama.
After enjoying their coffees ourselves in the past and meeting Rachel Peterson in person, we felt La Esmeralda and MOK were a perfect match and started this new relationship, both striving for the best possible quality in coffee.
Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha is like a fine natural wine, delicate yet expressive, refined and energetic.
A true palate cleanser in a coffee environment that is overrun with "infused" coffees and highly manipulated flavour profiles.
Due to the limited availability of this coffee, we are pre-selling both a washed and a natural lot so you can secure your box and we don't have precious Geisha waiting for customers.
We will roast on Monday the 27th of January and ship shortly after.
Each box is sold at 75 euros.

A WORD ON PRICE/TRANSPARENCY
The purchase and selling of this coffee is an expensive undertaking and this is the most expensive coffee we have ever bought.
.A box of 200g Retails for 75 EUR
Brewing one cup of 200ml at home costs 4,5 EUR, roughly the price of cappuccino and not even a craft beer in a bar.
We paid 200 EUR/kg including shipment and excise duties.
We add 18% for weight loss (after roasting) and roasting cost.
Add labour and packaging cost.
That makes around 250 EUR/kg
Producing a 200g box of Geisha costs us 50EUR ex vat. (6%)
At MOK we are always looking to bring in the most exciting coffees for our boxed series and having such an icon on the shelves is something we are really excited about and we will try to bring La Esmeralda in on a consecutive base always around this time of the year.
This coffee is one of the rare occasions where the profit lies higher for the producers than for the roaster.

To discover these flavour profiles we recommend to use soft mineral water with a low HCO3 (bicarbonate) & aim for total hardness of less than 140 mg/l.
